Our Unmanned & Integrated Systems business offers holistic solutions in system engineering and integration. We pioneer maritime robotics and autonomy solutions, provide system integration for complex naval and island air defence System-of-Systems (SoS), and take care of the operation and maintenance of Command, Control, Communications, Computers Intelligence (C4I) systems. We are seeking a skilled System Engineer to support the development, integration, and maintenance of Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system engineering and be passionate about autonomous maritime technology. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of USV platforms, including their onboard systems (navigation, communications, control systems), sensors, and hardware integration. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to design, implement, and optimize USV solutions, ensuring safety, efficiency, and performance on the water.

System Integration:
- Lead the integration of hardware, software, and sensors into USV platforms, ensuring full functionality of navigation, propulsion, communication, and power systems.
Design & Development:
- Collaborate with design and engineering teams to develop systems and components specifically tailored for USVs, including remote control systems, autonomous navigation, and onboard data systems.
Testing & Validation:
- Plan, execute, and analyse system and integration testing for USVs in simulated and real-world maritime environments. Ensure that the systems meet required performance standards, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Provide troubleshooting and technical support for USV systems, including diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and communication issues during operations.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization:
- Monitor and optimize the performance of onboard systems, including navigation accuracy, energy efficiency, and data communication to ensure the best possible mission execution.
Safety & Compliance:
- Implement and ensure compliance with maritime safety standards, operational guidelines, and international regulations governing autonomous vessels.
Collaboration & Cross-functional Support:
- Work closely with the operations team, naval architects, software engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions and ensure the seamless operation of USVs.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed system documentation, including designs, integration procedures, testing reports, and maintenance logs. Provide regular technical updates to leadership and project teams.
Innovation & Research:
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in autonomous maritime technologies, sensors, and system design. Contribute innovative ideas for improving USV capabilities, efficiency, and safety.
Onboard System Support:
- Provide hands-on support for USVs during field operations and tests, ensuring smooth deployment and performance monitoring in various maritime conditions.
Qualities We Value
- Knowledge in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Systems, Computer Science), or a similar discipline
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar technical role, with experience in autonomous systems, unmanned vehicles, or maritime technology.
- Experience working with complex systems, preferably involving robotics, unmanned vessels, or marine technologies.
- Strong knowledge of system integration for autonomous vehicles, including navigation, communication, propulsion, and control systems.
- Experience with maritime systems and sensors (GPS, radar, LiDAR, AIS, sonar, etc.).
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded systems, and autonomous navigation software.
- Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (Python, C++, ROS, etc.) for system automation and sensor integration.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, CAN bus, etc.) and network configuration for USV platforms.
- Experience with marine power systems, batteries, and energy management for autonomous vessels.
- Ability to analyse and optimize system performance, including energy consumption and mission efficiency.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, especially in the context of complex systems onboard autonomous vehicles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and provide clear technical documentation.
- Certification in Unmanned Systems (e.g., AUVSI, ISO 9001) is a plus.
- Marine certifications (e.g., STCW, marine safety, or navigation) is a plus.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent cloud certification for system integration with cloud-based systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in system design and testing.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
- Willingness to work in challenging, real-world conditions, including offshore environments and remote field locations.
- A passion for advancing unmanned maritime technologies and autonomous systems.
- Willingness to travel for fieldwork, on-site testing, and client operations as required.
- Ability to work outside standard office hours, including weekends, for operational support or emergency troubleshooting.
