Overall Purpose of Job:

Production of new ship construction/Repair and ensuring that the production processes are carried out effectively and productively to meet the required specifications and quality expectations of customers.

Take charge of the Hull Department and oversee operational and technical work. Processes to ensure smooth execution of projects and complete on time within the budget.

Able to show great leadership quality in order to control Productivity, Safety and Quality toward the departments.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Productivity:

  1. Deploy and assign projects to his supervisors
  2. Set productivity targets for his department
  3. Evaluate and assess staff work performance under his charge as per required
  4. Assess on-board or in-workshop work progress, verify against reported work progress
  5. Plan department man power projections, and highlights shortfall
  6. Assess and identify training needs for his subordinates
  7. Manage departmental staff recruitment, contract renewal and periodic appraisal

 Quality:

  1. Manage departmental improvement processes to improve quality of work

 Safety:-

  1. Monitor and review departmental BBS and hazard reporting program
  2. Implement divisional and departmental safety work plan
  3. Perform safety audits on departmental safety practices and employees
  4. The co-ordination between department in order to maintain Productivity and quality standard.
  5. Able to co-ordinate to other trades on work matters.
  6. On peak /critical period /major project they need to involve and attend VSCC, Customer meeting (Progress & quality etc)

Knowledge of class society requirements

Prepare to work long hours on weekdays, weekends and public holidays

 

Knowledge and skills

  • Good knowledge and exposure of ship repair/conversion projects.
  • Experience in improving department productivity.

 

 

Experience

  • Preferably 4 – 8 years of working experiences in similar capacity
  • Work in marine industry or similar capacity
  • SRM (Ship Repair Manager) certificate

 

Education, Qualifications and Special Training

  • Degree in marine or mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience

  • Resourceful and able to adapt to changes on short notice
  • Ability to continuously review current jobs and inject new ideas to improve work methods
  • Able to plan for critical works and commit to the deadline
  • Able to work under pressure

 

Physical Requirements

  • No colorblindness
  • Able to work onboard, and at height
