Title:  Engineer, Integration & Electronics

Job ID:  21859
Location:

ST Engineering Jurong East Bui, SG

Description:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations of Ship Control & Monitoring Systems (SCMS) and Platform Management Systems (PMS), assessing data accessibility and determining viable integration pathways for each deployment.
  • Interface with SCMS and PMS platforms from major marine vendors using industrial communication protocols including OPC-UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, NMEA 0183, and NMEA 2000 to extract vessel data into ZAEL’s systems.
  • Where SCMS/PMS-level integration is not feasible, investigate the underlying PLC and SCADA layers, or work down to IO cabinets and Local Operating Panels (LOPs) to identify and tap available hardware signals.
  • Develop and maintain integration scripts, data adapters, and configuration files that translate raw vessel signals into structured, ingestion-ready data for ZAEL’s analytics pipeline.
  • Interpret basic wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and electrical schematics to understand system architecture and identify practical signal extraction points.
  • Document each vessel integration, including system maps, signal registers, protocol configurations, and deployment records.
  • Support field commissioning activities during occasional vessel visits, including on-site testing, validation, and hands-on troubleshooting of integrations.
  • Collaborate closely with ZAEL’s software team to communicate integration constraints, data availability, and signal quality, helping shape what is practically achievable for each customer deployment.

Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Foundational understanding of industrial automation systems, including PLC architecture and SCADA concepts demonstrated through coursework, internship experience, or personal projects.
  • Exposure to industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU and/or OPC-UA. Familiarity with maritime protocols (NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000) is an advantage but not required.
  • Basic scripting or programming ability (Python preferred) for configuration tasks and data parsing. Full software development experience is not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, or P&IDs with guidance.
  • Strong analytical and investigative mindset, comfortable working with systems that are unfamiliar, and resourceful in finding a way forward.
  • Clear and structured communication skills, with the ability to document technical findings in a way that is useful to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exposure to or coursework in maritime systems, marine engineering, or vessel automation is an advantage.
